JEWISH JOKES

Cohen and Belderberg walk into a bar . . . already you’re smiling. Why? Because you know that any sentence that starts with a reference to something Jewish could possibly make you smile or laugh even. We Jews seem to have cornered the market on Jewish humor. I’m not saying that there aren’t any other funny people. G-d knows there are plenty of examples of other peoples who have great humor. In fact, I think, other than Presbyterians (kidding) there’s humor in every nook and cranny of every group on earth. But Jews are known for being funny. I think the reason can be found in persecution. We have eventually been driven out of almost everywhere we’ve landed. We have been persecuted throughout the ages. And so, to keep a modicum of sanity, we rely on humor. Jewish humor. We make fun of the situation, thereby easing the pain a bit. And there you have it, MeshugenehMike’s theory on Jewish humor.
